Main Purpose of the Job
The Programme Management Office (PMO) within John Innes Centre (JIC) is established to deliver the Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) programme of work involving various physical and soft projects, and business change/improvement activities across JIC and The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL). The impact will primarily be across JIC and TSL who are joint principal stakeholders responsible for delivering the shared benefits. The programme has received significant funding from UKRI Biotechnical & Biological Sciences Research Council (UKRI BBSRC) along with other grants from John Innes Foundation, University of East Anglia, Gatsby Foundation and Wolfson Trust.
The Project Manager will be responsible for the delivery of their owner discreet workload as well as supporting the Senior Project Manager/s with the delivery of construction projects within the NGI programme.
This appointment will also contribute towards the Programme Office vision of developing as a professionally organised and appropriately resourced department that directly supports and contributes to the delivery of the JIC-TSL NGI strategic aims and objectives.
Key Relationships
Post holder will work closely with stakeholders from across JIC and TSL, as well as the NGI Project Director, Senior Project Managers, Construction Officer, consultant team and any contractors appointed to deliver the programme of work.
This role reports to a Senior Project Manager.
Main Activities & Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of a project or multiple projects throughout the full lifecycle from inception through to close; working to deliver agreed outcomes, working alongside the Senior Project Manager allocated to the specific project.
- Deliver projects in accordance with the Programme’s governance requirements and approved decision-making authority.
- Liaise and manage the multi-disciplinary teams (both internal and external) to achieve the project deliverables to schedule, budget and the required quality.
- Work in accordance with the established project processes including project plans, Risk, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies (RAID) logs, change management processes and dashboard reports.
- Manage stakeholder relationships for the project that you are working to deliver, including regular, appropriate and timely communications throughout the project.
- Identify project risks and issues, escalating and reporting through project governance as required.
- Report to the Project Director using Dashboard Reporting.
- Be involved in lessons learnt workshops and the sharing of best practice with the Programme team, when appropriate.
- Deputise for the other senior members of the team when appropriate.
- Prepare and update business cases to justify the initiation and continuation of projects in terms of benefits, value for money and risk.
- Provide constructive support to the wider PMO function associated with the delivery of the Programme.
- Across these broad elements there is a general requirement to carry out other duties, working independently and as a member of the wider team, on behalf of JIC consistent with the grading of the post, and as agreed with the line manager, any other duties commensurate with the nature of the post.

It is essential that the successful candidate has knowledge of Microsoft Project, Asta, Visio and other project management related software and tools as well as MS Office packages.
Experience of working in construction projects and an understanding of the construction process is essential.
